Our last morning at Lewa. I was able to get in a short horseback safari--just myself and a guide alone before Pat and I had to leave for the airstrip. The air was cool and crisp, the horses fresh and eager as we set off. Giraffes with their long-lashed alluring eyes watched us curiously. Zebras grazed placidly, untroubled by our presence. Impala went on alert, ready to retreat in a heartbeat if we posed a threat. Guina fowl scurried away from the horses’ hooves. In the blue-hazed distance Mt. Kenya sternly dominated the horizon. It was Nirvana, the Garden of Eden, Shangri-la, Paradise Found!
