Then there’s the hippos. The last time we saw hippos was weeks ago in the Ngorongoro Crater, where they stayed mostly submerged in ponds. They weren't wandering all over the landscape like the Mara. Here we saw hippos all over the place. Browsing in our front yard (very exciting), in and around the river, and out on the plains.
Although hippos look kind of comical and roly-poly in reality they are very dangerous animals. We always took care to keep our distance from them.
